IMPORTANT UPDATE

OK guys, something really terrible has happened and I'm going to need you breath and be aware that this is the direct result of humans keeping these great beings in captivity.

On September 20th, 2012 Nakai (an 11-year-old orca at Sea World San Diego) was seriously injured during a night performance with two other whales. Sea World is claiming this was a result of him getting caught on a portion of the tank. The rest of us believe that this was the result of an attack by one or both of the other whales. Looking at the wound it looks like it was bitten clean off. And anyway, if Sea World had any brains at a, they wouldn't claim it was their tank since that would only illustrate that they do not keep their whales in a safe facility.

The image below shows the extent of the damage.
Photo from Tim Zimmerman's Tumblr.
The missing piece was recovered from the bottom of the tank. There has been some talk by others on various forums, facebook pages and blogs about potentially reattaching the missing piece, but according to many this is not likely as the forces in the water would prevent it.

Nakai's biggest problem now is infection. He is being given a lot of antibiotics to help and they are apparently using honey as a topical solution to help with the infection.

How can we let this go on? How can we let these humans get away with this? These whales were put in this situation and all of this wouldn't have happened if not for the greed of humans.

Please keep Nakai in your thoughts and share this story with everyone you can.

If you have any updates on how Nakai is doing or any photos to share, please email us!

Hey everyone! Sorry about the lack of consistent updates! I finally have some updates, videos and information to share! I'm going to start off with some videos since everyone loves moving pictures!

Here are some of the photos and video footage from the Dolphin Slaughter Protest that happened last month here in Vancouver, Canada.
Here is a video that Mermaid Kim and I put together and dedicated to captive cetaceans around the world.

Update on the Dolphin Slaughter

The latest news, on top of the slaughters that have taken place so far, is that one bottlenose dolphin, out of the 7-10 that were captured, was selected for a life in captivity in a swim with dolphins program in Taiji. The rest of the pod was released. No family should have to be separated like that.

How can I help stop this?

As always, I have included some links and information for you to check out that will help you actively contribute to bringing a stop to the horror.

ORCA ALERT!!!

According to End Killer Whale Captivity, an orca has just been captured in Russia. Apparently there were two but one has since died. I've used a translator on a couple of Russian forums and it looks like the whales were intended to be sold to another facility. The whales were caught in August as far as I can see.

PLEASE! If you have more information on this I would really appreciate a reply or an email! I will keep researching and keep you all updated on the status of this unfortunate situation!

Upcoming Events

There will be a protest held outside the Vancouver Aquarium on October 7th, 2012 between 11am and 2pm. Everyone is welcome to come and hold banners and hand out flyers. This protest is specifically relating to cetaceans in captivity.

I will be appearing as the Vancouver Mermaid as well to protest.

If you can't make it, I would be very grateful if you sent a polite email to the Vancouver Aquarium asking them to stop their plans to bring in more captive cetaceans. Thank-you!

To Sum Up

Thanks for taking the time to read through my massive post! I will do my best to be a little bit more regular when it comes to posting information to avoid so much text.

Keep swimming!

We were too late to save these souls, but that doesn't mean we can give up! We need to work harder than ever to get the message out there! Please, tell everyone you can about what is happening in Taiji, link them to the post I did on the Japan dolphin slaughter and urge them to do whatever they can to help stop this.
